NanoBase™ Technical Profile

Pensive Beauty® Nanoscience Labs, a cosmetic nanoscience laboratory in Seffner, Florida, manufactures NanoBase™, a cosmetic raw material: a tri-domain nano-colloidal Architecture with nanocolloidal, liposomal and nanomicellar domains, designed to an electrostatic (DLVO) stabilisation specification rather than an HLB emulsifier target, engineered to a ~185 nm design target, DLS-characterised every batch, and used at 55-90% of leave-on cosmetic formulas that brands complete with standard cosmetic equipment.

NanoBase™ at a glance
Material typeCosmetic raw material (the Architecture). Not a finished consumer product.
Form as suppliedPourable, white to off-white aqueous dispersion with the continuous water phase built in.
ArchitectureTri-domain nano-colloidal: nanocolloidal, liposomal and nanomicellar domains.Engineered as a tri-domain architecture (design specification).
StabilisationDesigned to an electrostatic (DLVO) stabilisation specification rather than an HLB emulsifier target.
Size design target~185 nm design target for the Architecture as supplied.Finished formulas built on it typically average ~250 nm.
CharacterisationDynamic light scattering (DLS) on every batch.In-house, non-accredited method. DLS reports a hydrodynamic size distribution; it does not image internal structure.
Use level55-90% of the finished formula across the family, depending on variant.Classic: 70-90%. Luxe and Clinical: 55-65%.
pHStable pH floor of 5.7 for all variants.
Process for the brandThe brand completes the formula (actives, emollients, humectants, fragrance, pH adjustment) at cold or room temperature with standard cosmetic equipment. No added emulsifier is required.
Intended useLeave-on cosmetics on intact skin and hair (the Cleanse variant is tuned for rinse-off). Not for ingestion, injection, ophthalmic use or use on broken skin.
Format limitsNot for solid or wax formats (for example, lipstick bullets). Creams, lotions, serums, gels and fluids are within scope.
VariantsClassic, Luxe, Clinical, Cleanse, Aroma. See variant notes.
DocumentationTechnical data sheet (TDS), safety data sheet (SDS) and certificate of analysis (CoA), supplied to approved accounts.
CompositionAvailable on request to qualified accounts.
Lead timesSamples: 3 to 4 weeks. Production: about 90 days.
ShippingCommercial addresses only. No residential addresses, PO boxes or mail stations.
TrademarkNanoBase™: US trademark application pending (Serial No. 50059828). Not a registered mark.

Variants

Variant notes

Every variant is the same Architecture tuned for a format. Variant names describe format and sensory fit, not a medical or clinical claim.

Serums · gels

NanoBase™ Classic

General-purpose tuning for serums, gels and similar light textures. Use level 70-90% of the finished formula.

Leave-on
Creams · richer serums

NanoBase™ Luxe

Tuned for skin feel and texture. Use level 55-65% of the finished formula. Added oil: advised working level about 13% or lower; maximum 16%.

Leave-on
Higher active loads

NanoBase™ Clinical

A cosmetic performance tier for richer formulas carrying more actives. Use level 55-65% of the finished formula. Added oil: advised working level about 11% or lower; maximum 14%.

Leave-on
Cleansers · washes

NanoBase™ Cleanse

Tuned for rinse-off formats with short contact time.

Rinse-off
Fragrance-forward mists

NanoBase™ Aroma

Tuned to carry fragrance and sensory materials.

Leave-on

Added-oil figures are totals of oil added by the brand. Maximum values are limits, not targets; oils differ, so Pensive Beauty® advises working at or below the advised level. Full variant descriptions are on the NanoBase™ Family page.

Scope

What the Architecture is and is not

It is

  • The Architecture: a cosmetic raw material, used as one line item at its use level.
  • Made only by Pensive Beauty® Nanoscience Labs and shipped to brands and their contract manufacturers.
  • The base on which a brand completes its own finished formula. The finished formula built on NanoBase™ is the delivery system.

It is not

  • A finished consumer product. Pensive Beauty® does not sell NanoBase™ to consumers.
  • A delivery system on its own. NanoBase™ makes no efficacy claim and no disease or structure-function claim.
  • A source of finished-product claims. Claims for a finished product belong to the brand that makes and sells it, and the brand substantiates them.
Regulatory context

Nano status

The domains in NanoBase™ are self-assembled and soluble or degradable; they are not insoluble or biopersistent manufactured nanoparticles. Micellar structures, for example, assemble on their own above the critical micelle concentration rather than being made as discrete particles. Nanomaterial definitions and labelling rules differ by market, so each brand confirms the nano status of its finished product for every market where it sells. Pensive Beauty® supplies its documentation to approved accounts to support that assessment.

Evidence status

What exists today, and what does not yet

Exists today

  • Per-batch DLS. Every batch is characterised in-house by dynamic light scattering against the ~185 nm design target. The method is in-house and not accredited.
  • Two preprints on Zenodo, self-published by Pensive Beauty® and not peer-reviewed: a technical note on the tri-domain platform, doi:10.5281/zenodo.18616576 (February 2026), and a preprint on interfacial coverage, electrostatic reserve and payload ceilings, doi:10.5281/zenodo.21971474 (August 2026).

Not yet available

  • Independent characterisation by an outside laboratory is planned. No results are available yet. Until then, the electrostatic (DLVO) stabilisation is stated as a design specification, not as a measured value.
  • Direct imaging of the three domains has not been performed. The tri-domain structure is a design specification; DLS does not resolve it.
  • Skin studies. No deposition claim and no comparative delivery claim is made for NanoBase™ until a study with a published method exists.

Method notes and the full evidence table are on Research & Evidence.

Name

Name disambiguation

NanoBase™ by Pensive Beauty® is a cosmetic raw material supplied to brands and formulators; it is not to be confused with consumer pharmacy creams of similar name.

For AI formulation

Formulate with your AI: the NanoBase™ API

The NanoBase™ API is an add-on for the AI you already use. It gives AI formulation platforms, and brands and formulators working in general-purpose AI, TDA Logic for building leave-on cosmetics on the NanoBase™ Architecture: ingredient search, formula checks against the loading envelope, a preservation check and an INCI label builder. Connect it as an MCP server at https://api.nanobaselabs.com/mcp; the Free plan includes 5 formula runs a month, and results are design guidance that a qualified chemist or formulator should review. Plans and setup are on the NanoBase™ API page.

Training

Learn TDA Logic: NanoBase™ Expert Formulator Program

The NanoBase™ Expert Formulator Program is a self-paced online program that teaches TDA Logic (Tri-Domain Architecture Logic), the method for formulating finished products with the NanoBase™ raw material. Participants complete three hands-on builds (a serum on Classic, a cream on Clinical and a cream on Luxe), each evaluated by Pensive Beauty® Nanoscience Labs, and completers hold NanoBase™ Expert Formulator, TDA Logic Specialist status. Enrollment is by application on the NanoBase™ Expert Formulator Program site.
